Comox Valley Recycling was the first recycling program in the Comox Valley

TASKS

My tasks included:
· Find a building and design and implement the architectural upgrades to make it a fully-fledged recycling facility. This included:
working with an engineer and architect
organizing the building contractors to make the renovations
have local government planning department approve the modifications
· Oversee the purchasing and installation of processing equipment: horizontal baling machine, fork lift truck, and sorting equipment such as conveyor systems.
· Design three different paper collection programs – paper, cardboard and office paper. This comprised of:
liaising with sub-contractors to provide collection services
design purpose-built collection containers
set up and schedule collection systems in local businesses, government agencies, CFB Comox, School District 71, and businesses
· Liaising with city staff to ensure recycling programs met criteria
· Employ and train employees, which included:
developing job descriptions
mandate safety protocols in accord with WCB (now Worksafe BC)
make payroll and employee insurance
oversee with developmentally disabled persons, and implement programs
· Make applications for wage subsidy programs and government training programs
· Preparing reports and budgets to CARE Board and EcoAction Program
· Manage 80 to 100 volunteers
· Design promotional materials such as flyers, newsletters, advertising campaigns in conjunction with graphic designers and media
· Make public speaking presentations to schools, government agencies, councils, businesses, conferences and the general public
